Melanie Lasoff Levs is a freelance writer and editor for local, regional and national media outlets. She is an Atlanta correspondent for The Washington Post and Newsweek magazine, and a contributing editor for Arthritis Today, the consumer health magazine published by the Arthritis Foundation. Her work appears in publications including Women's Wear Daily, The Fulton County Daily Report, Atlanta magazine and the Atlanta Business Chronicle. She also writes and edits for non-profit organizations including the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, the American Society of Journalists and Authors (of which she is a member) and the Forte Foundation. Online, Melanie’s work appears on Kudzu.com, Orbitz.com and divinecaroline.com, and she maintains the Atlanta Press Club blog, "This Just In." Before freelancing full-time, Melanie was editor of Atlanta Jewish Life, a Jewish community lifestyle magazine then published by Leader Publishing Group Inc. During her 2 ½ years of leadership, the magazine won several awards from the Magazine Association of the Southeast. Melanie's career includes editing jobs at Longstreet Press and Primedia Business Magazines and Media, a national trade magazine publishing company with an office in Atlanta. She arrived in Atlanta in 1995 to be a staff writer for the Atlanta Jewish Times newspaper, where she won three national journalism awards. Melanie, a 1994 University of Maryland College of Journalism graduate, was the Press Club program chair for six years. Her book, High School Graduation: A Time Capsule Journal, was published by Antioch Publishing in March 2000. She lives intown with her husband and son, who provide rich fodder for her personal essays.
