Mara ShalhoupSenior WriterCreative Loafing Mara Shalhoup is a senior writer at Creative Loafing, where she also has served as news editor. After graduating in 1998 from the Henry Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia, Shalhoup began her career as a courts reporter at the Macon Telegraph. Since then, she has received a dozen state and national awards for investigative reporting and feature writing, including a first-place Clarion Award for her 2004 series about a teen-aged prostitute turned triple-murderer, and two Livingston Award Nominations for her coverage of the Atlanta Housing Authority and the organized crime network the Black Mafia Family. In 2007, she was named the Atlanta Press Club’s Journalist of the Year. Shalhoup’s first book, about the Black Mafia Family, will be published by St. Martin’s Press in late 2008. |
