Washington Week is the longest-running news and public affairs program in public television. Gwen was moderator for the final Vice President debate for the 2008 election. During the historic presidential campaign, Ifill was inspired to write her book entitled
Breakthrough: Politics in the Age of Obama, which is set to be released on January 20. In the book, Gwen profiles up-and-coming political figures across the nation. Prior to joining PBS, Ifill was Chief Congressional and Political Correspondent for five years on NBC News. Gwen began her career working at prestigious newspapers such as
New York Times,
Washington Post, and
Boston Herald American covering local and national news. Throughout Gwen’s career she has been honored with over a dozen honorary doctorates and is the recipient of several broadcasting excellence awards.
