Atlanta mag runs a “Second Draft”

by Melanie Levs

Atlanta magazine is getting some well-deserved national attention for its recent interpretation of the Michael Vick saga. In its November issue, the magazine runs the text of a glowing profile of Vick from four years ago — only crossed out and edited with sharp commentary and additional reporting. According to the New York Times, “the magazine’s editors…decided that the mea maxima culpa approach was the best way to add something new to the story.” Excellent idea and kudos to editor Rebecca Burns and staff for its exceptional execution. Are there awards in journalism for admitting mistakes?
