It was 13 words that Superior Court Judge Hilton Fuller spoke regarding Brian Nichols’ defense — printed in black-and-white in this week’s New Yorker in an article by Jeffrey Toobin — that caused the uproar that led to his resignation from Nichols’ trial. According to an article today on ajc.com, Toobin had no idea his article was the impetus for the uproar. Toobin’s article is an excellent look at the legal issues surrounding the Nichols trial and many wonder…will it ever actually happen?

Don’t miss our February program on how electronic media is impacting political campaigns today. I have been fascinated to see how entities such as YouTube, blogs and even news websites have contributed to the discussion both among and about candidates. Is it too much? Do we need more actual NEWS, though, more about the candidates on the issues, or is there room for that as well as for the commentary? Perhaps those questions will be addressed during the program on Feb. 7. RSVP today!

I’d love to start a running list of the best media blogs, both “gossipy” (like who is leaving where, etc.) and serious (ombudsman-like). Please post your favorites! What are your must-reads? Thanks!

After Iowa and N.H., it seems ALL the news is about the presidential campaign. I’m all for it, as long as the talk is actually about the ISSUES, not just who cries and who is making a comeback and why so-and-so hates this or that candidate. UGH. Can we mainstream media folk take the high road once in a while or is that only for the bloggers? Please someone do a comprehensive story on WHERE THE CANDIDATES LIE ON EACH OF THE ISSUES, and why their backstabbing and doublespeaking (especially when they often seem to AGREE on issues) is useless and bad for the country. OK, rant over. Thank you!
