Colleague, Fan, Both?

I shouldn’t have felt embarrassed…after all, at Tuesday’s Newsmaker lunch, there was a HUGE line waiting to meet Meredith Vieira and get a photo with her. But it seemed “awkward” to admit being a fan of another journalist. I’m not sure why. After all, most of us have mentors or folks in the industry we’ve sought to emulate. So perhaps it’s fair to say I’m a longtime admirer of my “colleague” Meredith Vieira! Newsmaker participants enjoyed her genuine warmth and humor as she shared stories and insights into today’s major issues. I’ve enjoyed her blog on iVillage, where her recent entry mentions the Today show’s broadcast from the Georgia Aquarium.

Missing in Baghdad

Thoughts and prayers are with CBS, which is frantically trying to find two journalists missing, kidnapped by masked gunmen in Basra. I’m curious why the two journalists are not being identified but I am sure it is for the right reasons. Let’s hope this latest attack against journalists ends better than some of the previous ones. Absolutely horrible…
